Open Cell Foam

Open Cell Spray Foam

Better insulation than fiberglass!

Closed cell is expensive and not in the budget for some jobs.  But on a residential building that is wood sheeted, Open Cell Foam is a great choice!  By using open cell foam you are guaranteed to be twice as efficient as fiberglass, but save money over using closed cell foam.  Most new construction homes we spray use OC and they work very well in the temperature swings we have in Kansas City.  with an R-value of 13 when sprayed in a 2x4 wall it easily meets code also.  Most people think of open cell foam because we have all seen the videos of how much it expands when being applied, this extreme expansion is what makes it such a great insulator also.  By expanding 300 times its sprayed thickness this foam quickly swells into any cracks or voids to insulate the surface its sprayed to.

Open cell also has a chemical compound in it that gives it fire retardant qualities.

Seal up your attic

Over 60% of the air loss in your home is lost through the ceiling and attic ares.  This is typical around light fixtures, vents, and the holes in top plates for wires and plumbing.  The common way to insulate an atting is to use can foam to seal all the penetrations then blow fiberglass or cellulose into the attic as an insulator.

The best way to do it is spray a seamless layer of open cell foam over the entire attic floor, either 10' thick to achieve the proper R-value, or at a thickness of 3' then blow fiberglass of top.
